Daycare - a guide for you who want to know more
What is a day mother?
A daycare center or a family daycare center, as it is also called, is an alternative to preschool, which means that a daycare center welcomes the children into their own home. The groups of children are therefore usually smaller than in preschool, and in many ways it is a calmer environment for the children. The daycare mother, or daycare worker, which is the more formal term, is often a trained babysitter and offers the same educational activities as in a regular preschool. The activities follow the children's development and can easily be adapted to their needs and conditions.
Daycare or preschool - which is better?
It is difficult to say that one alternative is better than the other, it is about what is best for your child. The choice of preschool or daycare mother must be made based on the child's needs and what you as a parent think suits your family best. Below you can read a little about the similarities and differences between the businesses:PedagogyThe preschool's activities are governed by curricula in a more restricted way than what the daycare mother does. The curricula should be indicative of the day - mother's activities, but are not something she needs to follow to the letter. She can therefore to a large extent decide for herself which activities the children should do. And when to do them. In this way, the daycare mother has a greater opportunity to adapt the activities to the children's specific needs and conditions. If you have special educational wishes, there are both daycare centers and preschools with different specializations.Hereyou can take part in the preschool curriculum. And here you can read more about the general guidelines that apply to educational care.
The children's group
One of the biggest differences between the activities is the number of children in the group. In a preschool, the group of children often consists of more children than in a daycare center because the preschool has more educators on site. A day mother, on the other hand, is alone in taking care of the whole group of children, and they therefore usually have fewer children. However, there is currently no ceiling for how many children a day mother may have in her group, it is something she decides for herself. And since the groups often consist of children of different ages, where the elderly manage a lot on their own, there may therefore in some cases be more than 5 children in a group. So it is simply a matter of finding someone whose layout matches your child's needs, and the wishes you have.
The premises
Another big difference is the rooms that the children stay in, and what you think about this particular point is very individual. Many children like to be in the preschool premises where there are as many different things as possible to play with, and where there are different rooms for different activities. Other children feel safer in smaller environments and enjoy coming home to a daycare center and playing in an environment reminiscent of their own home. That said, where your child thrives best, only you and your child know.At Skolverket you can read more in detail about family daycare and preschool.
