How the idea Yepstr came to be

April 25, 2024

"'Ever since I moved away from home, there was one thing that was certain. At the beginning of each summer, there was a call from Dad; a conversation with a question, year after year: "Jacob - do you know any young people in the area who want to mow our lawn and earn some extra money? I pay well!". In my father's eyes, it was a fantastic, natural, way to help young people earn extra money, while he escaped time-consuming routine chores. My father is over 60 and runs a business full time, time is short and after I, my sister and our peers got older and moved away from home, the alternative to turning to expensive service companies lived. The costs of household services are simply so high that time-constrained careerists are forced to spend a lot of time on routine chores. Then it suddenly hit me. If a person has the same problem for several years in a row, they can not be alone, can they? This led me to start calling around the local area to explore the matter further. Was this a common problem or was it just my dad who suffered from it?In the neighborhood, only two out of 15 families already used young people to help with child and dog care. But there was a clearly expressed interest in relief around services in the home. Not only that, but after a short while of thinking, it turned out that the interest applies to most things; fruit and berry picking, fence painting, party help (for example someone who serves if you have a party), simple technical support, leaf raking, window cleaning, snow shoveling, homework help, sports coaching, music lessonsEver since I moved away from home, there was one thing that was certain. Assuming the proximity to help was there. This is where the puzzle started to come together! Easier services, those that require time but not too much investment or education, perfect for teenagers! The next step was therefore to talk to them. Even if you yourself feel quite young and cool, you quickly realize that you are not particularly in anymore when you only have 1,800 points on Snapchat compared to the 350,000+ that fourteen-year-olds seem to average.I have always had the reason to be grateful for my large family, but never before have my 30 cousins come in as well. With a whole series of teenage cousins, I quickly found out that most teenagers would like to have an extra break outside of school, but found it difficult to find. Almost all jobs require you to write a CV and personal letter; which in turn must have been filled with something, which is a major obstacle. In addition, it is about freedom. It is tough to promise recurring and long times when fun things often appear that you want to follow. It was from these two insights that the idea of Yepstr was born.
